Artist Statement

I make a conscious effort not to work from intent, but rather to give myself over to the materials completely, and then just really pay attention to the textures, lines, colors, and the emotional and physical response they elicit.

So the bar keeps getting raised, because unanticipated things come into focus, new questions, new discoveries. I am drawn to decay, and the coming apart of things that are tidy or predictable; a fascination with pattern and then the disruption of that pattern. I trust mark-making as a very natural physical way of connecting, seeing, recording encounters.

Books are a vehicle for both ideas and tangible expression, for exploring the interplay of materials, content, and responsive form.
